Any two dimensional art work consists of two basic elements namely, forms and colors.Theories of art and thought of artists revolve around these two basic premises.Artists like Picasso concentrated only on forms whereas artists like Matisse and Renoir gave stress on colors.
Pseudorealism
Pseudorealism is a visual arts style that gained popularity in India in 21 st century which is the product of the new wave of experimentation where colors are given primacy and are chosen in such a manner that they create a realistic image without imitating the colors of nature.A distorted view of reality is depicted through the abstract symbols and colors scheme. This style of Pseudorealism is always been compared with that of magic realism and surrealism.Though approached in abstract color scheme and meaningless geometric shapes ,the scenes in pseudorealistic works remain comprehendible. The computer generated graphics used by the moviemakers in 90’s is termed as pseudorealistic scenes .... something not real but has a realistic effects. It is a new style in India and a very few artist are experimenting with this idea, among whom Delhi based Bengali artist Devajyoti Ray is significant.A three dimensional realistic effect is predominant from Ray’s work where bold colors akin to fauvist art or Gond Tribal paintings are put flatly.
Devajyoti Ray
